2021 Honda Civic Type R LE in Edmonton, Alberta
The Honda Civic has gone through so many different transformations over the years; however, it remains the iconic and legendary vehicle that all automotive enthusiasts from St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Beaumont, Leduc, Spruce Grove, Devon, Stony Plain, Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding areas of Alberta have come to appreciate. The legend of the Honda Civic dates back to 1973 and continues until this day. The market has spoken, and the Honda Civic remains the number one selling car in Canada, and for 2021 it continues to outpace the competition. Now in its tenth generation, the Civic has become the epitome of what a compact car should be. However, North America was deprived of a very unique version of the Civic, which was only offered overseas.
The Honda Civic Type R was originally introduced to the Japanese market in 1997 and was based on the 6th generation body style. The recipe was simple; consumers wanted a hot hatchback that was affordable and offered great performance. Needless to say, Honda delivered on its promise and the Type R was engraved into the history books. The only issue that arose over its initial four generations was it never made it to our side of the hemisphere. In 2020, prayers were answered as the 2021 Honda Civic Type R finally reached our shores. However, the introduction of the Limited Edition version took the industry by storm.
At Alberta Honda, we are ecstatic to offer you the new breed of Civic, one that was born on the race track. There is no denying that Honda Racing has been an integral part of who Honda is. 2021 Honda Civic Type R LE Style
The Type R badge first made an appearance on the legendary NSX and since then has found its way to the Civic. The Civic has taken the badge with honour and, for 2021, pushes towards a more futuristic look that forces a second glance. The protruding angles and the sharp front end add a certain level of intrigue to this vehicle. The aggressive front fascia that is vented in many different places and the large rear spoiler sitting on top of a muscular hatch is what really sets the Type R LE apart from the competition. Standard exterior features include Brembo brakes, LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, a unique centre-mounted exhaust system with triple outlets, and in your face red badging. The Civic Type R was created to be different, and it achieves that in so many different ways.
2021 Honda Civic Type R LE interior
Step inside the Type R LE, and you will find only one colour combination, red and black. Suede bucket racing seats with a large Type R logo embroidered near the headrest continues the theme inside. Drivers will find an extremely snug fit, and for good reason, when you're taking the Type R LE to the track for the weekend, you want to make sure you're not jumping around inside. You will find a 7-inch digital cluster with a red theme and a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2021 Honda Civic Type R LE Performance
This is where all the magic happens, under the hood. The new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder makes a whopping 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That works out to 153 horsepower per litre, which is mind-boggling. The engine feels like it is always in the torque band with its responsive throttle and limited turbo lag. There is only one transmission choice, a short-throw six-speed manual that features Honda's buttery soft clutch. The Type R LE can run to 100 km/h in 5 seconds flat and eat up the quarter-mile in 12.7 sec; now that is extremely impressive.
